Filling in the gaps

6 October, Brisbane

Once again, we are the victims of crazy air fares to Asia. This time we are off to Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. Part of this trip is to fill some gaps that we have left on previous excursions. On our first visit to Myanmar two years ago we missed Inle Lake. So we fly into Mandalay in a few days via Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Then on local trains, donkey carts and pickup trucks to the Lake!

We did a road trip some years back to Penang and the Cameron Highlands, but we haven't done much of Malaysia south of KL. Our plan is to take the train from KL to Malacca, then on to Singapore. The train trip is also part of another 'gap filling' exercise, as we have a long term goal to have travelled from Singapore to Amsterdam overland. We only have a few gaps left on the map for this one and this trip will fill in one of them.

Taiwan is one of the few Asian countries left on our to-do list, so we have tacked it on. We don't know much about Taiwan so we are researching feverously.

As usual we are off with our carryon 7kgs and where practical using local public transport.
